17th - Batignolles
In contrast to neighbouring areas of the largely well-off, middle-class 17th arrondissement,
Batignolles originated as a working-class village outside the main city of Paris.
Perhaps, as a result, it was long a haven for artists, most prominently the ‘groupe des Batignolles’,
a group of avant-garde artists that included Edouard Manet.
Nowadays, however, the neighbourhood has a distinctly more upmarket feel,
attracting young professional couples whilst retaining its appeal to artists and musicians.
The rue des Dames is the home to some unique and quirky boutiques,
as well as housing many of Paris’ most interesting smaller galleries, linking past and present works of art.
Restaurants: The Marché de Levis offers excellent food shopping opportunities,
whilst the rue des Dames is lined by patisseries and boulangeries that are sure to appeal to even the most demanding consumer.
Metro: La Fourche, Brochant, Rue de Clichy
